2019 GMS Middle School Winterguard Information:
What is Winterguard?Winterguard is similar to the colorguard in the marching band. You will learn how to spin a flag and you will also learn a little bit about dance related movement as this is an aspect of winterguard and colorguard as well. Winterguard rehearsals are held indoors in a gym.
We use the winterguard program at Greendale as a starter program for our GHS marching band colorguard, so if you're interested in participating in marching band cologuard with you get to high school, this would be a beneficial activity for you to participate in! We want to get a lot of people on the team this year so even if you're slightly curious about the activity, please come join us and see what we're all about - we promise you will have fun!
The high school colorguard team is also going to help instruct our middle school team. Each middle school student will get a high school "buddy" to help guide them through the learning process and spin choreography together. This process will give middle school students more individual instruction as well as the opportunity to meet and bond with their future older teammates.
Who can participate in winterguard and do I need to have previous experience?
We invite any 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students (boys or girls) who are interested in winterguard to join us - we do not have tryouts for our winter season. You do not need any previous experience whatsoever in colorguard or dance. Almost everyone who joins starts without knowing anything about the activity. We will teach you everything you need to know throughout the season! There is also no cost to participate in the middle school winterguard program. 8th graders will transition to the high school colorguard team starting with auditions in mid February if they wish to continue to participate in fall marching band colorguard.
When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals will start December 11th from 6-9 PM and run through the first week of February on mostly Tuesday's (with a few various weeks off for holidays) in the GHS MPR and upper gym. Rehearsals are always open to parents. A full schedule will be handed out on December 11th at 6 PM in the GHS band room.
Please contact Colorguard Director Tami Reifenberg at [email protected] or 414-416-0013 or Director of Bands Tom Reifenberg at [email protected] with any questions.
